Arsenal have had a £40million bid for Ben White turned down, while they also face a fight to hold on to Emile Smith Rowe.
The Gunners want to strengthen their central defensive options this summer and have set their sights on White, who is part of the England squad at this summer’s European Championship.
But Brighton are in no hurry to sell the 23-year-old, who is also comfortable in midfield, and they have rejected Arsenal’s opening offer.
It remains to be seen whether the Gunners will go back in for White, who enjoyed an impressive first season in the Premier League in 2020-21, having previously starred on loan at Leeds United in the Championship.
talkSPORT understands Brighton would be seeking in excess of £50m to even consider selling White to a Premier League rival.
Meanwhile, it also emerged on Wednesday that Arsenal have rejected an offer from Aston Villa for Emile Smith Rowe.
The 20-year-old and his representatives have been locked in talks with the Gunners since April about extending his contract at the Emirates, which runs until 2023.
Now, as first reported by The Athletic, Villa have made an ambitious bid to tempt the midfielder away from the Emirates.
The Midlands club have already beaten Arsenal to the signing of Emi Buendia and, in a sign of their intent this summer, now believe they can lure Smith Rowe to Villa Park.
But it is understood Arsenal will reject the bid and do not want to sell.
Smith Rowe, who joined Arsenal as a 10-year-old, broke into the first team last season and established himself as a key player.
The England Under-21 international sharpened his tools courtesy of two loan spells at RB Leipzig and then Huddersfield Town before overcoming injury woes to make his mark in north London.
He scored four goals in 33 appearances under Mikel Arteta last season.
Real Madrid are also reported to be showing an interest in Smith-Rowe, with suggestions they could offer Martin Odegaard – who spent last season on loan at Arsenal – as part of any deal.
