Arsenal suffered a worrying injury scare in their 2-1 pre-season friendly defeat to Chelsea as Thomas Partey limped off in the first half.
The Gunners midfielder felt the full force of a challenge from Ruben Loftus-Cheek.
It appeared to be his ankle causing him trouble and, despite attempting to carry on, he was forced off the pitch in the 39th minute.
And, after the match, Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta said: “I just had a talk with the doc. He’ll have a scan tomorrow. At the moment it’s not looking good.”
Granit Xhaka was his replacement, a man who’s future could be affected by any injury to Partey, and he scored the Gunners’ only goal of the game.
The Switzerland international had been set to join Roma this summer, but a move has stalled.
In recent days it had been reported that Arsenal were now looking to extend his contract.
Arteta appears to have made the decision to tie Xhaka down to a longer deal, though.
He told talkSPORT: “Granit Xhaka is going to stay with us. He is a key member of our squad.”
According to Fabrizio Romano, the Swiss star will get a contract until June 2025 with an increased salary.
Options are already limited in the middle of the park with Mohamed Elneny starting alongside Partey in the friendly.
There was some good news for Arsenal, though, as Ben White came on for the second half of the game.
The defender completed his £50million transfer from Brighton on Friday and looks to get minutes under his belt before the new season starts.
Chelsea took the lead in the game with Kai Havertz netting in the first half, an advantage they took into the break.
Xhaka then scored in the 69th minute to bring the teams level, before Tammy Abraham restored their advantage three minutes later.
