Robert Lewandowski to Manchester City? Trevor Sinclair thinks it would be a perfect fit and realistic signing for the Premier League champions.

Speculation has been rife over the future of the Bayern Munich goal machine with his contract in Bavaria set to expire next summer.

A host of clubs – including City and Chelsea – have been linked with a move for the Poland hitman, who has hit a staggering 294 goals in 329 games for the German giants in his seven years at the club.

The 32-year-old is still at the very top of his game and Sinclair reckons he’d shine if he was reunited with Pep Guardiola, whom he worked under at Bayern for three years from 2013-2016.

“Robert Lewandowski is a great fit for any team,” he told Friday’s talkSPORT Breakfast show.

“You look at his record, 203 goals in 219 league games for Bayern, he looks fit as a flea, sometimes you look at a player when they get older than 30 and you begin to question them physically, but he looks great physically.

“He looks hungry. He still looks sharp playing games week-in, week-out, and yeah, of course he’d be a great fit for Man City.

“Whether it’s going to happen, I don’t know. Pep knows him well from his time at Bayern Munich and he’ll have a good rapport with him, but I’m sure Man City would have had a look at every top striker around Europe who has one or two years left on their contracts.

“They need a striker, it’s as simple as that. They’ve lost Sergio Aguero and there are rumours Gabriel Jesus might be leaving to go to Italy, and they’ve only got Liam Delap and you can’t expect him to come in and do a job in the Premier League in such a specialist position.

“They’ll be looking at a lot of players and obviously Harry Kane is still in the mix.”

However, Sinclair admits fans might be left wanting in the club’s search for a new frontman this summer.

“While we think they need a striker, Pep might just decide to go without,” said the former City man.

“He’s saying it’s expensive, he’s not sure the club can afford it, and we’ve seen him do it before.

Guardiola took Man City to the Premier League title last season despite not playing a centre-forward throughout the season – can he do it again?

“Literally all last season apart from a few times when Aguero or Jesus went in, they played without a number nine and they won the league very, very strongly.”

Asked how much he would pay for Lewandowski, considering his age and the length of his remaining contract in Germany, Sinclair insists he would still command a big fee.

“He’s got to be about £40m, he’s still in that ballpark and anything lower than that I don’t think Bayern Munich would consider it,” he added.

“If they’ve got someone earmarked they want to bring in and they think they can shave a little bit off that fee by selling Lewandowski, I think they would do that.

“But if it’s not £30m or £40m-plus, I don’t think they would do it.”
