Exclusive: Boxing legend George Foreman says Logan Paul ‘dominated’ Floyd Mayweather and suggests exhibition fights like this and Mike Tyson vs Roy Jones Jr are more exciting than competitive fights

Logan Paul and Floyd Mayweather’s exhibition hasn’t been met with universal praise, but they had a fan in former two-time heavyweight champion George Foreman.

The 72-year-old was impressed with what he saw from the pair on Sunday night in Miami saying the fight was ‘exciting’ and he even went as far as to say that Paul ‘dominated’ Mayweather with his jab.

“It was an exciting night for me,” ‘Big’ George told USA Today, explaining he wasn’t expecting to be as entertained.

“Believe me; some guys would say, ‘I’m turning this off now.’ I would not leave the television because, at any second, I thought Mayweather might take him out, then the kid starts jumping around using his jab and dominating.

“He didn’t have the experience Mayweather had, but he dominated with his size,” Foreman said of the 6ft 2in Paul.

It’s worth noting Paul only landed seven jabs on Mayweather during the eight rounds and he threw 73, meaning he only landed 10 per cent of those thrown.

Still, Foreman says he is starting to enjoy the exhibitions more than actual professional boxing.

“The strangest thing is I’m starting to enjoy these exhibitions a lot more than the so-called competitive fights they put on because there’s no entertainment value to those.

“These have entertainment value. Mayweather turned into the slugger, following the guy around. And [Paul] is as long as Wilt Chamberlain with that jab. It was exciting.’’

Exhibition fights have become big business, with former champion Mike Tyson facing Roy Jones Jr last November and has suggested he will do more of them.

Mayweather, though, insisting he probably won’t get back in the ring, has never been a man to leave money on the table, and a potential showdown with Jake Paul is looming.

The young Paul brother is fighting former UFC welterweight Tyron Woodley on August 28 and if he managed to win that contest, then a showdown with Mayweather would probably be lucrative for both parties.

Another date with Conor McGregor would probably make Mayweather a lot of money, too.

The Paul brothers seem to be at the front this wave of exhibition fights, even though Jake is technically fighting as a professional. Who else, like Mayweather, will want to cash-in?
