Demetrius Andrade has branded Canelo Alvarez a ‘coward’ as the Mexican sensation seemingly does not intend to fight him any time soon.
The unbeaten 30-0 American currently holds the WBO middleweight title (the division below Canelo), but crashed his post-fight press conference after the Billy Joe Saunders win to once again call him out.
Alvarez dismissed his in-person fight demand and security escorted Andrade out of the presser after an entertaining war of words.
Canelo has made it clear that he has no intention of facing the 33-year-old in the near future and is instead targeting Caleb Plant.
Andrade told The DAZN Boxing Show: “He’s a coward bro, he’s a coward.
“To me, that’s some coward s***.
“You can give people the opportunity to get in there, make millions for themselves, make a legacy, but I can’t do that?
“That’s coward s*** bro, that’s coward s***.
“You’ll fight Rocky Fielding, what has he done for the sport of boxing?
“Avni Yildirim, what did he do?
“Callum Smith – he fought a bunch of old guys in Europe, got some little championship and all of a sudden he’s somebody that’s supposed to be getting in there with Canelo?
“What did Billy Joe do to get that fight? He went 12 rounds with Martin Murray bro.
“I’m a champion. I’ve been a champion in two weight divisions.”
Canelo told Andrade his thin resume is a big part of the reason he is not interested in facing him next.
He is regularly criticised for his level of opposition – but claims he’s being avoided.
Andrade continued: “The excuse of me not fighting nobody? I’ve tried to fight Billy Joe.
“If me and Billy Joe would’ve fought, I feel like I had the confidence and ability to beat him.
“I tried to make that happen [earlier this year] and Canelo shut that down. Because it’s an easier path [for him] to fight Billy Joe.
“Billy Joe couldn’t even get Martin Murray out of there, he looked sluggish, he looked like s***.
“And you think that’s the guy that’s gonna beat up Canelo? Come on man.
“My hat goes off to everybody who steps into the ring because it’s not easy.
“But as far as the excuses to not get in the ring with me, call me a ‘horrible fighter’, that’s coward s***.”
