Not everything went according to plan for Chelsea striker Romelu Lukaku on his Stamford Bridge homecoming.

Sure, he scored twice against Aston Villa, but the knee slide celebration for this first goal went badly wrong and a club legend couldn’t help but laugh at the Belgian’s expense.

Didier Drogba was a big fan of a knee slide too, so it’s no wonder he was quick to mock Lukaku for his poor offering.

After netting past Villa goalkeeper Jed Steer just 15 minutes into his return to west London, he wheeled away in delight.

Approaching the corner flag he dropped to the deck in hope of sliding towards the Chelsea faithful.

Instead, though, after a brief glide, his right knee got stuck in the ground and flipped him over onto his back where he was swarmed by his teammates.

Chelsea legend Drogba wouldn’t let him forget his failure, though, commenting on the club’s post of the goal: “Hello doctor David, can you g et him a new knees.” [sic]

While he later thanked teammate Marcos Alonso who gave Lukaku’s knees a rub to make sure his mate was feeling okay.

Drogba spoke to Lukaku before his return to Chelsea and gave him some sage advice too.

“He kept it really simple,” said the Belgian. “He was really happy about improvements that I made over that last couple of seasons.

“But he is always saying that there is more work to be done. I think that’s the right mindset.

“If you really want to achieve the maximum, as a football player, it’s all about improving week in week out.
