Believe it or not, the jury’s out on Cristiano Ronaldo’s ability to score in the Premier League.

Ronaldo is all set to go to make his second debut for Manchester United as they face Newcastle at Old Trafford on Saturday.

He’ll be eager to hit the ground running having made it clear he’s come back to the Red Devils to win.

It remains to be seen whether Ronaldo can drive Man United to Premier League glory but former Premier League striker Carlton Cole believes the Golden Boot is coming the way of the 36-year-old this season.

“I think he’s going to be top goalscorer in the Premier League,” he told talkSPORT.

“I always have these predictions and they always come to pass. I’m predicting Ronaldo is going to be the top goalscorer in the Premier League this season.”

The claims had Sports Bar Northern Quarter Adam Catterall, who questioned whether Ronaldo would play enough matches this season, in stitches.

“I’m not saying Man United are going to win the league or anything,” Cole responded.

“Ronaldo playing enough games? He loves it, he loves it… he’s Superman. He’s top notch.”

The new no.7 is 5/1 to win the award, but Fantasy Premier League managers aren’t quite as optimistic as Cole, with only 26.9 per cent of players signing him at the first opportunity by the time of the deadline to register team selections in the popular game.

At £12.5million, Ronaldo is the joint most expensive player on the game along with Liverpool star Mohamed Salah.
