Exclusive: Frank Warren explains what David Haye needs to do if he is to stand any chance of getting Tyson Fury fight

Tyson Fury’s co-promoter Frank Warren has played down talk of a potential fight with David Haye in 2021, but not completely ruled it out.

The pair were previously scheduled to meet eight years ago, but Haye’s injuries scrapped the contest.

In a surprise move, he returned to the ring at age 40 for a bout with his friend Joe Fournier last weekend.

Having previously claimed this would be a one-off, Haye caused further shock by calling out Tyson Fury after winning on points.

“There’s one fighter I would come back to professional boxing for and that’s Tyson Fury,” he said. “That big fat dosser, I know I’m his kryptonite, I know what he can’t handle.

“He’s a dosser and I know I’m his kryptonite and I know he knows it. He knows it, his dad knows it and his uncle knows it.

“My overhand right… which I didn’t even show in there tonight, I didn’t want to scare him. If I’d have let my right hand go, he wouldn’t be taking the fight.

“He thinks it would be an easy fight but [he’s] wrong. I know he’s ducking Anthony Joshua but he doesn’t want that work. We were supposed to fight in 2013 but I was injured but I’m healthy and I’m ready to go.”

Fury’s co-promoter Warren reacted to iFL TV by saying: “I like David. I’ve got a lot of respect for David.

“But he’s 40 years of age. He’s not a youngster, though he’s not 58 years old [like Evander Holyfield].

“Having said that, he’s suffered some bad injuries.

“Certainly against Tony Bellew. He obviously had these injuries and he shouldn’t have been in the ring in the first place.

“I don’t know whether he’s got rid of the injuries or not.

“I’m sure he’s calling out Tyson because him and Tyson – let’s get it right – would be a huge fight. There’s no doubt about that.

“But I think he’s gotta do a bit more before talking about Tyson.

“For number one, he’d have to get rated. And to get rated you’d have to fight a rated fighter.”
