GFriend is officially leaving Source Music. The K-Pop girl band have decided to part ways with their label after six years. Source Music themselves confirmed the news in an announcement posted on Weverse on 18th May 2021.
Their statement reads that after careful consideration, they agree with GFriend and are separating from the band. “After careful consideration and extensive discussion, GFriend and Source Music have come to an agreement to follow separate paths to continued growth.”
The band’s contract with the HYBE subsidiary is set to expire on 22 May. Source Music further wrote in their statement that GFriend has won the love of K-Pop frans through a wide range of concepts for the past six years. It added that their performances, songs, and concepts marked a new generation of girl group and music.
Source Music further expressed their “sincere” and “heartfelt” gratitude to GFriend who allowed the label to accompany them on their journey. They further expressed gratitude towards all “BUDDY” and fans who have shown their love for GFriend. The statement further read, “We would like to deeply thank all BUDDY and fans who have shown your love for GFRIEND, and we ask that you give your unchanging love and support to the members who will begin their adventures in new and diverse areas.”
They concluded their statement as they said they will always continue to cheer for the members as they take the first step towards this new beginning. GFriend had debuted back in 2015 with their five-track EP called Glass Bead. Since then, the group has been well-known for its chart-topping tracks. Some of them include Me Gusta Tu, Rough and MAGO.
