Harry Kane has been told to ‘act the right way’ after it was revealed he hasn’t attended training for Tottenham.
The striker failed to report at Spurs’ Hotspur Way training ground on Monday on what was due to be his first day back from his extended break following England’s Euro 2020 campaign.
His no-show comes amid rumours Manchester City want to sign him, however, it’s understood Spurs chairman Daniel Levy won’t accept an offer of less than £160million for Kane.
Kane’s failure to report for training at his club has shocked many, including his old manager Harry Redknapp.
And former Spurs striker Darren Bent, although he understands Kane’s frustration, says the England captain was wrong to do so, insisting no amount of ‘sulking’ will change stubborn chief Levy’s mind.
“He is under contract and he should act in the right way in terms of showing up,” Bent told talkSPORT Breakfast.
“Be with your teammates, do your [COVID] testing, whatever you’ve got to do. He should show up.
“I 100 per cent understand his frustration. He wants to move, he’s made it abundantly clear he wants to leave, but I think there’s a right way to go about things.
“Unfortunately he’s at a club where he can kind of sulk and not turn up to training but that won’t solve things, that won’t soften Daniel Levy’s stance.
“He’s got three years left on his contract. He should be turning up to training and honouring his contract but I do understand his frustration.”
It’s since been revealed that Kane hasn’t shown up for a second straight day but is expected to make a return later this week.
Kane is revered by Spurs fans but his time in north London is at risk of ending on a sour note.
talkSPORT’s Lianne Sanderson was also surprised by Kane’s decision but warned fans not to judge the 28-year-old too quickly, as all the information regarding this transfer saga may not be out there.
“I was surprised, he’s obviously England captain,” Sanderson added. “I was at Tottenham’s last home game of the season and it was at home to Aston Villa and he did his lap of honour looking very dejected.
“I think there’s more that goes on behind closed doors than people know. I personally would never not go to training, but I’m not Harry Kane, I’m not in that situation and I think there’s more to it.
“I do think it would’ve been interesting had it been Paul Pogba not turn up to training, I think it would’ve been completely different.
“I think he’s basing it on the hope that the truth will come out in the end. I don’t think it’s based on money…
“It’s a shame it’s come to this but I just hope Tottenham fans don’t not see him as Tottenham legend based on the fact he’s not turned up to training.
“We need more information.”
