Ole Gunnar Solskjaer simply isn’t at the managerial level of Thomas Tuchel, Jurgen Klopp and Pep Guardiola and the Manchester United boss should be sacked if the club want to progress.
That is the view of one Red Devils fan, who joined talkSPORT on Wednesday and declared that United’s squad is just as talented as their rivals but they are lacking in competent direction – as exhibited by their defeat to Young Boys in the Champions League.
A kind-looking group started with the Red Devils’ easiest away match, yet Solskjaer’s stuttering side came a cropper in Switzerland on Tuesday evening.
Cristiano Ronaldo opened the scoring at the rocking Stadion Wankdorf, but Aaron Wan-Bissaka’s red card in the 35th minute put United on the back foot and two goals from the hosts in the second half flipped the game on it’s head.
The shock result has burst the bubble of Ronaldo’s glorious return.
And after an early season wake up call, one United fan thinks Solskjaer must go if silverware is to be brought to Old Trafford this season.
“I’m probably going to get a lot of stick for this, but do I think he’s the manager to take us to the next level? No I don’t think he is,” he told the talkSPORT Breakfast.
“If you look at some of his tactical decisions, sometimes he’s shown wanting.
“People will say he’s beat Klopp, he’s beat Pep etc on one-off occasions, but throughout the season there’s a lot negativity surrounding his team selections and substitutions.
“That was seen last night with bringing on Jesse Lingard and taking off Ronaldo. For me he should have brought on Greenwood to keep them [Young Boys] on the back-foot.
“We have a fantastic squad who are on a par with Liverpool, City and Chelsea, but if you look at the managers of those other teams – Liverpool have one of the best in the world in Klopp, Guardiola is unbelievable and then Chelsea have got Thomas Tuchel, who I wanted at United.
“Ole is not on par with them tactically.”
He added: “Chelsea did the right thing with Lampard. He was a club legend but he couldn’t get the best of them.
“Look at them now with Tuchel, the level he’s taking them because of his tactical nous and level.
“I want Ole to take us through this but I can’t see him taking us to the next level.
“I’d like to see him moved and kept in the club to keep that DNA and ethos, but bring in a more experienced, tactical manager to take us to the next level.”
