Mike Tyson will make his return to boxing in September, according to coach Rafael Cordeiro.

‘Iron Mike’ took on fellow ring legend Roy Jones Jr in an exhibition fight in November 2020, 15 years after he last fought professionally.

After shedding pounds upon pounds, the 54-year-old looked in great shape and seemed to be reinvigorated thanks to his committed training regime.

The man behind that strict diet and exercise programme was legendary MMA coach Cordeiro, the Brazilian who founded Kings MMA in Huntington Beach, California after years of honing his skills at Chute Boxe Academy in his home country.

And Cordeiro has confirmed the ‘Baddest Man on the Planet’ will make his return to the ring in yet another exhibition bout against an unnamed opponent later this year.

“We continue training,” he told MMA Fighting. “He’s an athlete and is always training, hitting pads here in the gym.

“I think we’re going to have something in September.

“I don’t know who because his company Legends Only League is working on it and negotiating a TV deal so they can announce a schedule, but we’re training.

“We’ll be fighting in September.”

Talks between Tyson and former foe Evander Holyfield took place in March over a potential trilogy fight, yet they collapsed and ‘The Real Deal’ will instead face Kevin McBride on June 19.

The Irishman, who effectively retired Tyson almost 16 years ago, signed to Triller Fight Club to appear against Holyfield on the undercard of Teofimo Lopez’s lightweight world title fight against George Kambosas Jr.

Meanwhile Tyson’s last opponent, Roy Jones Jr, is close to agreeing a deal to fight former super-middleweight world champion Carl Froch – who told talkSPORT he wouldn’t let his new nose get ‘flattened’.
