Since retiring from a glittering playing career in 2011, Vieira moved on to the managerial scene and was recently appointed as Crystal Palace’s boss.

Many tipped the Eagles to struggle this season but Vieira secured his first victory for the club in a memorable 3-0 win against his old rival Tottenham.

The Frenchman is one of the greatest players in Arsenal’s history, his time in England was not all a breeze as Parlour told talkSPORT he was a ‘bit miserable’ when he first arrived in north London.

“He was a bit miserable first time he turned up because it is difficult for foreign guys coming into a different dressing room and I think his girlfriend was in France so he was a bit lovesick,” Parlour revealed.

“I used to say to him, ‘Come on Patrick liven up, you’re in London now, you can have a much better time’, he split up with his girlfriend and met again in London and I think he’s still married to her today.

“After that he loved London, he turned around overnight when he met his new girlfriend in London, but he was a great lad.”

Whilst Vieira was widely respected in the dressing room, it didn’t stop his team mates from teasing him whenever rumours started circulating about his departure from north London.

“Every single summer during pre-season you would see him linked to every single club, Juventus and certain clubs,” Parlour added.

“When we used to come into training he used to turn up and we would all look at him and say, ‘Are you still here Patrick? We can’t wait for you to leave’.

“He would laugh and he had a really good sense of humour.”
