Tony Bellew has warned that it will backfire on boxing if things go wrong in the current trend of celebrity and YouTuber fights.
The former WBC cruiserweight champion was asked for his thoughts on influencers Jake Paul and Logan Paul.
Jake recently defeated Ben Askren and is now 3-0 as a pro, while Logan is 0-1 but scheduled to meet Floyd Mayweather in an exhibition next month.
Bellew told the BBC: “First and foremost, they’re not detracting from boxing all all.
“Let’s just get one thing straight – these guys aren’t fighters.
“If I go and play football at Goodison Park tomorrow, does that make me a footballer? I wish it would.
“But the fact of the matter is these guys aren’t fighters, these guys aren’t true boxers.
“They’re someone who’s having a go at a sport and competing a little bit.
“Now I’ve got no problem with that, but they shouldn’t actually attach themselves and call themselves professional boxers of any magnitude or any kind of substance.
“Because it’s wrong what they’re doing to the sport by claiming they are these fighters.
“I’m okay with you making a few quid, this is all good when they’re all making a few quid and everyone’s making some money.
“But understand, someone’s gonna get hurt doing this and then it’s gonna come back on boxing.
“So you need to take it seriously, boxing is a professional, dangerous, brutal business.
“Do not mess about and try and think this is showbusiness, it’s cameras, it’s lights, fun and games.
“It ain’t nothing funny about being in the ring with another man who wants to take your head off your neck.
“I’ve been there, I’ve done it. Believe you me, someone will get hurt in one of these fights and that’s when it’ll all come raining down.
“That’s when boxing will be called a joke of a sport, ‘This is a disgrace, this is wrong.’ Just stop it now.
“The guys are stupid, they’re putting their lives at risk.
“There’s journeymen who would wipe the floor with both of these clowns, journeymen.
“It’s disrespectful to the sport to think that these guys are fighters.”
Bellew concluded by predicting what he believes will happen in Logan’s fight with Floyd: “This guy’s gonna get his backside handed to him by Floyd Mayweather.
“He’s gonna get played with, he’s gonna get absolutely schooled.”
