Exclusive: Tony Ferguson has ‘gone rogue’ and is not answering the phone to UFC, says Dan Hooker

It appears as though Tony Ferguson has no interest in talking to the UFC right now.

We haven’t seen Ferguson in the octagon since he lost to Beneil Dariush at UFC 262 back in May. It was ‘El Cucuy’s’ third straight loss, all of which were very convincing.

UFC had been looking to find Dan Hooker a fight for UFC 266 later this month and their first target was Ferguson.

Both men are coming off losses in a crowded lightweight division. Hooker’s last outing was the quick loss to a debuting Michael Chandler back at UFC 257 in January.

However, Hooker told Submission Radio that Ferguson did not return UFC’s calls about the fight.

“He’s gone rogue. Just didn’t pick the phone up. No one from the UFC can get a hold of him. That’s what I’ve been told.”

Previously, Hooker had expressed his desire to face Ferguson and he believed their styles would have made for a great scrap.

“I feel like Tony is just a guy that I would love to fight. I feel like the fans would love to see that fight, I feel like everybody wants to see that fight, and I’m sure that will be one heck of a fight.”

Hooker will now face Nasrat Haqparast on the UFC 266 card set to take place on September 25.

Speaking after Ferguson’s last loss, UFC president Dana White wondered if the difficult losses could be taking their toll on a man who once had a 12-fight win streak in the division.

“He had a tough three rounds,” White said. “He couldn’t stop the takedown, he couldn’t get up from underneath Dariush, and yeah, he had a tough night. I don’t know, we’ll see what happens.”

Could his crushing loss to Justin Gaethje back at UFC 249 in May 2020 have been the beginning of the decline for the 37 year old?

“It could be that, it could be just time gets us all,” White said. “So it’s one of those things, I don’t know which one, or both. But yeah, unfortunately it’s definitely hit Tony.”

Ferguson certainly has a few intriguing options left for him in the UFC division if he has the hunger to take them, Hooker being one of them.

However, without some wins, his days in the title picture and the top five seem to be past him.
