Tottenham star Harry Kane could complete a ‘player plus cash’ transfer to Manchester City in the summer, talkSPORT have been told.
The striker has had a sensational individual season with 21 goals and 13 assists in the Premier League but his teammates have been unable to help him win the team silverware he craves.
In an interview after Spurs’ Carabao Cup final defeat to Manchester City, Kane was brutal in his assessment of the club’s season.
He said on Sky Sports. “The goal right now as a player is to win team trophies.
“I want to be winning the biggest prizes there is to offer and we are not quite doing that.
“It is bittersweet, I would rather be winning team trophies and this one [the London Football Awards’ Premier League Player of the Year] but it is what it is. I am proud to win it, it means it’s been a good season on the pitch.
“So I have got to try and continue what I am doing.”
He continued: “It has been a disappointing season if I am totally honest.
“We have had so many opportunities and been in so many games where we have been ahead or been in a good position going into the last 15 minutes and we haven’t quite got over the line for one reason or another.
“When we look back, we were in a great position come November and that spell over December and January really put a halt to what we were trying to achieve.
“We have got loads to improve on. The thing now is to try and finish strong, try and win the last five games, hopefully try and make the Champions League spot.
“It has been disappointing and as players we have to take responsibility and when we go away in the summer really focus on what we can improve on and do better.”
And given the disappointment felt by Kane and Sergio Aguero leaving Manchester City on a free transfer in the summer, Tony Cascarino believes a deal to take the Englishman to the Etihad makes sense.
He told the Weekend Sports Breakfast: “It’s a different dynamic at Man City, they’re obviously letting him [Sergio Aguero] go because they are going to make a big signing. I think that’s pretty clear.”
Talking about a possible replacement for the Argentine, he added: “If they can get a deal done, it will be [Harry] Kane. That’s the one I would be looking at. I think [Erling] Haaland is a bit trickier because of the agent, the dynamics and the involvement of Dortmund. I think there is a time, sometimes, when players have to go and that is Kane’s time now.
“You could argue Daniel Levy will want this and want that. I think players are needed at Tottenham and I think a player plus cash deal could be easily made available because, like we saw yesterday, there are a lot of fantastic players that aren’t playing in Manchester City’s first-team.
“I wouldn’t be surprised if there was a player plus cash package.”
Asked if the Spurs superstar would fit in at the Etihad, Cascarino insisted he would do just fine at Man City.
He added: “I’ve always said they don’t need a centre-forward and I say this because Kane is not really a centre-forward. Kane does so much more.”
