Tyson Fury is finally going to defend a world title when he takes on Deontay Wilder on October 9.
The trilogy fight was originally scheduled to take place on July 24, but Fury was struck down with COVID and had to pull out of the fight.
The Wilder rematch wasn’t meant to happen. Fury dismantled his foe to secure the WBC heavyweight title in February 2020.
Then, earlier this year, Fury announced the deal to fight Anthony Joshua in an undisputed heavyweight title bout was agreed.
A day later, Wilder managed to legally force his rematch with Fury leaving Joshua and Eddie Hearn blaming the Gypsy King for the fight’s collapse.
However, speaking to IFL TV, Fury isn’t interested in what Hearn and Joshua think and believes Wilder is a far more dangerous opponent than AJ.
“It’s just opinions of sheep, isn’t it? I’m not very interested in what they’ve got to say,” Fury said.
“I’ve got a much more dangerous man in Deontay Wilder than Joshua will ever know how to be. Joshua times 10 would never be as dangerous as Deontay so it’s all hearsay, it’s all b*******.”
Joshua is now fighting Oleksandr Usyk on September 25. The Ukranian is a former undisputed cruiserweight champion, Olympic gold medallist and is unbeaten in his professional career.
Fury thinks Joshua needs to worry about that fight more than him.
“I’ve got a much more dangerous fight coming up and he needs to concentrate on his fight which is with Usyk, that’s a dangerous fight too,” he added.
“He knows he can be beat, knocked out by a smaller guy. People are saying he’s got no chance because he’s small or whatever, but Andy Ruiz wasn’t the biggest guy in the world and he knocked him out.
“They need to concentrate on their own career and forget about me for a minute.”
If Joshua and Fury come through their fights, which are only two weeks apart, there will be renewed hopes the undisputed heavyweight title fight will go down in 2022.
