Daniel Bryan put his place on the SmackDown roster on the line for a shot at Roman Reigns’ Universal title last night.
Unfortunately for the Leader of the Yes Movement, he came up short against the Tribal Chief and now he has been ‘banished’ from the Blue Brand.
WWE fans are left wondering: What does this mean? What are WWE doing with Daniel Bryan?
The 39 year old – who turns 40 at the end of May – was open with talkSPORT about his immediate future in WWE stating his desire to enjoy his children while they are young is in direct conflict with the schedule of a full-time performer in WWE.
He also revealed that his contract is set to expire this year and he will have to make a decision. Losing this match makes it easy for Bryan to disappear storyline wise if he is taking a break.
“For me, my contract is up soon and that sort of thing so it’s really just an evaluation of what’s more important to me. Going out and doing this thing that I love every week, but being away from my family, being away from my wife and kids three days a week, and they’re at this stage that you don’t ever get back.
“I think it’s a little bit different when they get to be in school and time isn’t as slow as it is now. But we’re not having any more kids and our boy is seven months. Our daughter is going to turn four in May and it’s going by so fast.
“You don’t want to lose that time, as a human. There are certain things you can’t ever get back.
“What do you love personally, but also what’s the most important thing. That’s the struggle that I’m dealing with right now – what’s more important?
“Because one of the other things is hey, from a financial perspective, you can set your kids up for the rest of our lives, right? You can do that. But the trade off is, you don’t get to be there for them every day.”
Of course, it’s possible that Bryan will move to another brand. Fans are hoping Bryan does a stint in NXT and even a move to RAW could be a new lease of life for the former five-time world champion.
Whether he does that before taking a full-time parenting sabbatical or if he stays and simply moves brand, only time will tell.
But Bryan is openly considering his future and the timing is unlikely to be a coincidence.
